A quick way to move elements on the screen is to nudge them. Select one or more placed elements, and then while holding down your Shift key, simply use your arrow keys (Left/Right/Up/Down) to move the object in the chosen direction. The distance the object/s move is set in the Girds & Backgrounds dialog box
When you have finished creating your Grids, Lock the Layer in ALL your Layer Combinations, which will make it very difficult to accidentally edit its position.
For the ARCHICAD 20 NZ Template, the Grid display has been turned off as a default so you can have a clean workspace, however, if you wish to turn on again the Grid just go to Grid display settings in the Toolbar
If you have walls with different angles, sometimes you will want to see the grids in your Elevation/Section. If the grids are not perpendicular to the Elevation line, the grids won’t show at first instance. Now, you can go to the Elevation/Section settings > Grid Tool and select ‘Show non perpendicular Grid Elements’.
If you are using Grids in your floor plan, you can set them to show in section, elevation and 3D, All you need to do is set the correct R.L. to display them at in the dialogue box.
If you find you are having trouble selecting and/or drawing in ArchiCAD and you have a little dot following your cursor around (like in this image), then you have inadvertently turned on your grid snapping. You can turn if off but hitting the Grid Snap icon in the toolbar or go to View > Grid
When using ArchiCAD’s Nudge function, to set the nudge factor go to View > Grid Options > Grids & Background To set the little Nudge (Shift + Arrow) use Grid Snap Spacing To set the BIG Nudge (Shift+Alt + Arrow) use Construction Grid Spacing
Graphisoft’s Grid Goodie is now part of ArchiCAD. With this you can easily place an entire Grid System from Design > Grid System, and add individual Grid Lines by selecting Grid Element from the ToolBox. The Grids can even be set to show in 3D.
You can toggle Grid Snaps using the ‘S‘ key on your Keyboard (Alt-S for NZ Users). Alternatively Hit the Grid Snap Icon in the Toolbar. NOTE: This feature can be accidentially turned ON when saving if you miss hitting the Ctrl or Option key and just hit ‘S‘.
If you want the Grid Elements to appear in 3D window, within the Grid Element Settings dialog go to 3D View and Check the Display in 3D view box. Note :If this box is not checked, all other controls in this panel are grayed.
