To find out which layer an element is on, select the element . The  Info Box on will tell you what layer the selected element belongs to. Note: If the Info Box palette is missing ,to bring it back go to Window > Palettes and click on Info Box.

If your Navigator, Navigator Preview or Quick Options Palettes disapear, you can turn them back on with the icons at the bottom left of your workspace.
